On the completion of their one and a half decade in theatre, Rang Rasia Theater Group celebrated it by organising a theater festival - "5th Hindi Short Play Competition" in Mumbai.
Held on 3rd and 4th march in Andheri, Mumbai; many Theater Groups" participated in this competition. The winning prize went to Shyam Bhimsaria for Best Direction for his play “One Coin Please”. Majorlty of the shows showcased reality of life, albeit with a dash of honesty, comedy and social messages interspersed in their plays. The audience enjoyed it a lot as the duration of the plays ranged from 15 mins to 40 mins. This was a different experience all together for the audiences that normally see only one show in a theatre. The plays based on Social issues plays got more appreciation than others.
The brain child of Saurabh Sharma who was also the Director of this festival said, "We wanted to give something new to the audiences. Also with people's focus more on the Glamour world in form of films and television, they have started forgetting "Theater". This short play competition was organized to let them enjoy the nuances of good acting and a good script as a medium. Also, we wanted to strongly put across to budding actors and also those who are serious with acting that theatre is one of the strongest mediums towards your success. You not only learn the basics of acting but you can hone your acting skills and also sharpen it. Even the best talents in Bollywood have done their basics in theatre. It’s like have a strong foundation on which you can build your tower of success.”
Judges and special guests to the event included well-known Bollywood actress and theater personality Miss Divya Jagdale (Gulab Gang fame) and Actor Gulshan Pandey (Crime Patrol Dastak fame). Other chief guests included famous Comedian Banwarilal Jhol, Actor Rajeev Saxena and Narendra Panjawani. The winners to the competition were given away prizes, momento’s and certificates by Divya Jagdale.
