Durga Puja is a celebration of the Mother Goddess and the
victory of the Goddess Durga over Mahishasura. On this auspicious occasion of
Maha Ashtami, North Bombay Sarbojonin Santacruz (East) celebrated 67th Durga
Puja under the banner of Banga Maitri Sansad. The Puja was graced by Ms. Poonam
Mahajan, who offered prayers and seeked blessings from Goddess Durga.
Banga Maitri Sansad, being the parent body of the North
Bombay Sarbajanin Durga Puja is one of the oldest socio - cultural organization
in Mumbai. Banga Maitri Sansad founded in the year of 1948 is a non -
Political, Religious, registers socio cultural organization, catering to the
needs of the under privileged persons, to downtrodden – destitute, needy and
aged – ailing – infirm persons coming from different walks of life, from
different parts of the country.
On this occasion Dr. Rajat Deb Barman, Chairman of Banga
Maitri Sansad said, “Durgapuja is the part and parcel for every Bengalis life.
Maa Durga inspires us to fight against all odds, at the same time conveys the
message of unity and brotherhood among all communities and societies”. Also
Secretary of Banga Maitri Sansad Mr. Nirjash Roy Chowdhury said, “Banga Maitri
Sansad is a non- political, non- religious organization catering to the needs
of all, irrespective of cast, creed and community. Every year we give donations
to Ramakrishna Mission and this year we donated to Prime Minister Relief Fund
for the victims of Jammu & Kashmir floods. Our aim is to uplift the
downtrodden and make them a part of main stream society”.
The puja was later followed by bhog for all devotees. Amrita
Rao also visited the pandal and offered her prayers to Maa Durga and was
spotted enjoying the delightful lunch. The grand celebration of Durga Puja saw
over thousand devotees. Other celebrities who visited the pandal for Durga Puja
were Singers Aarti Mukherjee and Anuradha Paudwal.
