The very first film of Bollywood based on the aftermath of
Indira Gandhi’s assassination released its first teaser trailer today in New
Delhi. The film is titled ‘31st October’ and stars actors Soha Ali Khan and Vir
Das in lead. The film is directed by National Award Winner Shivaji Lotan Patil
and is produced by Mr. Harry Sachdeva under his home production Magical Dreams
Productions Pvt. Ltd.
‘31st October’ is based on a real life story of a family who
battles for their survival with many other Sikhs on the day which has been
marked in history as a black day , the day Indira Gandhi was assassinated.
‘The teaser was premiered today considering the significance of
the date 31 October.‘ This year we complete 30 years of denial of justice.
However, The film is a complete thriller and will take the audience through an
experience of emotions, drama and a nerve racking journey ‘, said Shivaji Lotan
Patil, the Director of ‘31st October’
‘The subject is close to many hearts in India and across the
globe, especially the sikh NRI’s who had to leave their motherland because of
what they faced on that black day. My sole intention of making the film is to tell the world that such massacres do
no good to an individual, community or country. To talk about the film, all I
can say is that when people will watch it, they will surely take back home a
story to remember’, said Mr. Harry Sachdeva , producer & writer of 31st
October
When I heard the script I did not even give a second thought, I
was sure that I want to play the character I was approached for. The film is
based on an incident out of history and it is all together a different
experience to be a part of such scripts . I am playing a real life character in
film and it was a great experience to get absorbed into the character by
learning Punjabi , shooting in villages . It is surely one character which will
never fade from my memory ‘ , said Soha Ali Khan.
The film is expected to release early next year . The teaser was
launched at ‘TRIBUTE TO 84’, a homage ceremony organized by Mr. Harry Sachdeva
in remembrance of the many lives lost in 1984. The launch took place in a
special ceremony hosted to pay tribute to the victims of 1984 and it witnessed
many who’s who of the society like Vikramjit Singh Sahney (Corporate President,
Sun Group and International President of World Punjabi Organization , Senior
Advocate and Social Activist H S Phoolka , Swami Agnivesh (Social Activist) ,
Tarlochan Singh (Former MP and Chairman ,National Commission for minority),
Jaya Jaitley (Former President , Samata Party) and a musical performance by
Singer Harshdeep Kaur, all gathered together to pay homage to the martyrs and
support the survivors and their families and to communicate delay of justice
shouldn’t discourage them and the film is a small step towards communicating
that what happened , it shouldn’t have ,not only in India but in any part of
the world.
