Sofitel Mumbai BKC in association with Ecofolks announced to host the Mithi River Race to be held on November 30th 2014, to create awareness about the heavily polluted Mithi River. Sofitel Mumbai BKC’s PLANET 21 initiatives reaffirm its promise towards responsible and sustainable development with a goal of protecting our planet and the environment.

The Mithi River Race is scheduled for Sunday, November 30th 2014. The 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers & 5 kilometers run is open to all, which begins and ends at HRIDAY; Sofitel Mumbai BKC’s 30,000 square feet of open area in the heart of BKC in Mumbai. The Race Route will touch upon the banks of Mithi River and run across key corporate offices in BKC. Registrations are now open online at the following website www.ecofolks.com/mrr. Registrations can also be emailed to runners4rivers@ecofolks.com.

Pollutants and waste products including chemicals and plastics have ruined the sanctity of the river and it is important to be aware of our social responsibility towards the environment. In line with Accor’s PLANET 21 environmental campaign, Sofitel Mumbai BKC promises responsible and sustainable development. Mr. Biswajit Chakraborty, General Manager, Sofitel Mumbai BKC says, “The Mithi River is a critical resource for Mumbai. The preservation of aquatic resources for ecosystem, human health and well-being is of paramount importance. In our Planet 21 initiative, the hotel regularly conducts a number of activities with the goal of protecting our planet, its people and their environment. We are happy to generate awareness about this along with Ecofolks, through the Mithi River Race. This initiative will be one additional step closer to a greener and healthier environment.”

Mr. Shyam Lata, Director of the Mithi River Race said, “Mumbai is the Running Capital of the Country and it is the first time that the ever growing close knit running community is standing up and running for a cause."

Finding inspiration from Prime Minister Modi’s newly launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the run signifies energy, health and revitalization of life in a clean and hygienic environment. With #betheflow as the tagline, the run exhorts people to live an active life vis-a-vis the sedentary lifestyle. The funds gathered through the race will be utilized to support the NGO Jal Biradari spearheaded by Mr. Rajendra Singh, Magsaysay Awardee and the ' Waterman of India', who will be the chief guest at the event. Sofitel Mumbai BKC will also treat the participants to some scrumptious and healthy breakfast post the race.
