Yesterday saw the special screening of the newly restored
version of the 1973 classic cult film ‘Garm Hava’ which is based on a North
Indian Muslim family during the Partition. Directed by M S Sathyu, Garm Hawa
won the National Award in 1973 and was India’s entry for the Academy Awards in
the Best Foreign Film category.
The special screening saw the likes of Tanvi Azmi, Javed
Jaffery, Divya Dutta, Rajeshwari Sachdev, Gita Siddharth, Sulbha Arya and Esha
Deol who thoroughly enjoyed the movie with director M S Sathyu. While Tanvi
Azmi filled the gap for her mother in law - Shaukat Kaifi, Parikshit Sahni was conspicuously absent
from the screening. Garm Hava will be screening across theaters in Mumbai,
Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Ahmedabad on November 14, 2014.
The film revolves around the story of the Mirza family at
the time of the Partition in 1947. Halim
Mirza (Dinanath Zutshi) decides to immigrate to Pakistan as he feels there is
no future for Muslims in India while his younger brother Salim (Balraj Sahni)
stays back in hope for better time. Garm Hawa was the debut film of acclaimed
actor Farooq Shaikhue. With some great
names and great acting by Balraj Sahni and Faaroque Shaikh, the film also has Gita Siddharth, Dinanath Zutshi and Shaukat Kaifi.
