The latest FICCI-EY report titled, “Shape the future: Indian media and
entertainment is scripting a new story” has revealed a remarkable milestone for
the Indian Media and Entertainment (M&E) sector in 2024, which has reached
a total value of INR2.5 trillion (US$29.4 billion). This represents a growth of
INR 81 billion from the previous year, marking a 3.3% increase. Growth slowed
down from 8.3% in 2023, due to falling subscription revenues, and a global
decline in Animation and VFX work outsourced to India. The sector contributed
0.73% to India's GDP in 2024.
As per the FICCI – EY report, digital media in India has overtaken
television to become the largest segment within the M&E sector,
contributing an unprecedented 32% to the overall revenues.
The Indian M&E sector's advertising revenues have seen an
impressive growth of 8.1%, predominantly led by performance advertising on
digital platforms, including e-commerce websites, and a surge in demand for
premium and digital Out-of-Home (OOH) media. This growth has been further
bolstered by the resilience of print and radio retail advertising revenues.
Digital media (17%), live events (15%), and OOH media (10%) have been key
drivers of growth.
Mr Ashish Shelar, Minister of Information Technology & Cultural
Affairs, Government of Maharashtra said, “I compliment FICCI for the voluminous
Media and Entertainment report. My department and my government will take the
lead to see the best suggestions from this report and implement as a part of
the upcoming 100 days program of the Cultural Affairs Ministry of Govt of
Maharashtra.”
Mr Kevin Vaz, Chairman, FICCI, Media and Entertainment Committee
asserted, “The Indian media and entertainment industry is at a defining moment,
driven by rapid digital adoption and evolving consumer preferences. This
transformation is unlocking immense opportunities for content creators,
advertisers, and technology innovators across all segments of the M&E
ecosystem. With India’s media and entertainment market expected to surpass INR
3trillion by 2027, the future is brimming with untapped potential.FICCI remains committed to fostering
collaboration and innovation to ensure that India’s M&E sector continues to
thrive as a global powerhouse.”
Mr Ashish Pherwani, Media & Entertainment Leader and Partner, EY
India said, "The digital revolution has not only transformed how content
is created and consumed but has also redefined the very essence of the M&E
industry. From immersive storytelling and interactive experiences to innovative
business models and strategic alliances, the landscape is continually reshaping
itself. As digital media overtakes traditional mediums, we are witnessing a
paradigm shift, where the value delivered across information, escapism,
materialism, and self-actualization becomes the new benchmark for success.”
Ms Jyoti Vij, Director General, FICCI added, “The FICCI-EY report
reaffirms the resilience and dynamism of India’s Media & Entertainment
sector, which continues to thrive despite global economic headwinds. The
impressive 8.1% rise in advertising revenues and the exponential growth of
digital media underscore India’s leadership in content creation and
consumption. As the industry undergoes rapid transformation, FICCI remains
steadfast in driving policy reforms, fostering strategic collaborations, and
shaping a future-ready ecosystem that not only fuels sustainable growth but
also strengthens India’s global influence in the M&E landscape.”

Pooja Hegde, known for her commanding screen presence and stellar
acting prowess, has become one of the most sought-after Indian actresses,
driven by talent, resilience, and a constant pursuit of reinvention. From being
an outsider to making a name for herself in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil film
industries, she has embraced every challenge head-on, balancing commercial
blockbusters with diverse roles that push her limits. In a candid and
thought-provoking conversation on the latest episode of In The Ring with
Filmfare, now available to stream on Filmfare’s YouTube channel, Pooja offers a
rare glimpse into her personal and professional journey. Hosted by Jitesh
Pillai, Editor-in-Chief, Filmfare, the talk show brings fans closer to the most
celebrated names in film and OTT industries, with a live audience making the
experience even more raw and immersive.
During the exclusive chat with Jitesh Pillai, Pooja opened up about the
courage it takes to embrace authenticity and the importance of mental
well-being in an industry that constantly demands more. She also reflected on
the strength it takes to break the glass ceiling, the role of therapy in her
journey of self-growth, and why true success lies in owning one’s
individuality.
Sharing her perspective on nepotism in the industry, she remarked,
“Opportunities aren’t the same for everyone. While some actors collaborate with
renowned filmmakers early in their careers, others like me have to hustle for
every role. Even now, some directors don’t respond to my messages, while a star
kid could easily secure a meeting. But I’m not ashamed of my journey."
She also spoke on the evolving conversation around gender equality in
the film industry, saying, "Equality isn’t about taking away from anyone;
it’s about ensuring that credit and respect are shared fairly. Every role in a
film, from the biggest star to the newest actor, is part of the story that
unfolds on screen. When we celebrate the collective effort, we create an
environment where both creativity and respect can thrive."
Shedding light on her definition of success and expressing her views on
staying true to oneself, she said, “Success is not about fitting into a mould;
it's about breaking free and embracing your authenticity. True growth begins
when you stop seeking validation and start celebrating what makes you
different. The courage to stand out, take risks, and own your journey often
becomes the spark that ignites greatness. After all, legacies are not built by
following footsteps but by leaving your own."
Opening up about mental health and the importance of embracing
emotions, Pooja highlighted, "Healing doesn't mean avoiding sadness or
difficult days. It means allowing yourself to feel every emotion, to cry when
you need to, and then to gather the strength to move forward. Trusting the
universe, the people who support you, and yourself is what turns pain into
resilience. Every tear shed is a reminder that you're human, and every step
forward is a testament to your strength."

written a 250-page script titled Krishna-Leela. Reflecting on her journey,
Nikita says, “I’ve always dreamt of representing India on the global stage,
and, when I was crowned, I was overwhelmed with gratitude, joy, and an immense
sense of fulfilment. I realise my purpose isn’t to please everyone; it is to
create a legacy. And legacies aren’t built by fitting an ideal – they’re forged
by embracing authenticity. Once I accepted this, I began to enjoy the journey.”
Rekha Pandey, Femina Miss India 2024 – 1st Runner-up, from Dadra &
Nagar Haveli, is a force for resilience and social change. Passionate about
women’s education and rural development, she believes in using her voice for

her an inspiring figure, proving that beauty goes hand in hand with purpose.
Sharing her thoughts on the responsibility that comes with wearing the crown,

conversations, challenge outdated norms, and represent countless women who see
themselves in you.”

The girl who once rocked neon braces as a child is now turning heads
with her radiant smile – Khushi Kapoor’s journey so far has been nothing short
of remarkable. With three films in her kitty, Kapoor has struck a chord with
the younger generation, earning praise from both industry insiders and fans
alike.
Beyond the screen, her warm, down-to-earth personality makes her an
instant favourite. Her authenticity shines through whether she is sharing
candid moments on social media or radiating positivity in everyday life. In an
exclusive conversation with Grazia India, Kapoor opens about her journey, the
mindset that fuels her performances, and the self-care rituals that keep her
grounded amid the whirlwind of stardom.
Reflecting on her craft, Kapoor shares her biggest lesson, “You need to
feel the emotions that your character is feeling and go through those same
emotional beats, otherwise it comes across a bit inauthentic.”
Eager to explore new dimensions as an actor, Kapoor dreams of stepping
into deeper, more intense narratives. She shares, "I’ve always been
curious to see what the process of a thriller-horror movie would look like;
maybe not completely horror, but something a bit darker than the movies I’ve
done so far. I like doing dramatic and emotional scenes, so I think it would be
interesting to make a film that was heavier on those kinds of notes."
When it comes to her creative approach, Kapoor enjoys adding a personal
touch to her characters, “I like making mood boards and sending them to my
directors just so they know what kind of vision I have for the character. It’s
about offering a fresh perspective and creating something collaborative.”
As for beauty and wellness, Kapoor believes in keeping things simple
and effective. She says, “I like to oil my hair when I’m not shooting and
indulge in hair spas. With skincare, I’ve noticed that the less I do, the
better. A good moisturiser and vitamin C serum are my essentials. Staying
moisturised is my thing.”

From delivering some of the most iconic action-thrillers and comedies
to producing thought-provoking cinema, John Abraham has built a career on bold
choices – remaining a dynamic force in the Hindi film industry with an
illustrious career spanning over two decades. As he continues to revel in
praise galore for his latest film, The Diplomat, the versatile actor sits down
for an unfiltered conversation in the latest episode of In The Ring with
Filmfare, now available to stream on Filmfare’s YouTube channel. Hosted by
Jitesh Pillai, Editor-in-Chief, Filmfare, the talk show provides fans with an
exclusive, in-depth look at top talent in film and OTT industries, with a live
audience adding to the immersive experience.
John Abraham’s journey in Indian cinema has been nothing short of
inspiring. From his striking debut in Jism to redefining action with films like
Dhoom, Force, and Batla House, he has consistently pushed the envelope with
roles that challenged him. Alongside blockbuster films, he has backed
critically acclaimed films like Madras Café and Parmanu, proving his mettle as
both an actor and producer. In this candid chat, John delves into his career
evolution, the challenge of staying relevant, the impact of social media, his
belief in fearless storytelling, and much more.
Breaking down his decision to bring J.P. Singh’s story to life in The
Diplomat, John shared, “When I read the script for The Diplomat, I was
instantly hooked—it never dipped in quality. That’s why I chose to do it. Good
writing, paired with a responsible director, is what truly makes a film stand
out.”
Reflecting on his journey and the power of authenticity, he revealed,
"As we grow, we shed the need for perfectly crafted responses and embrace
the power of honesty. Experience teaches us that diplomacy has its place, but
true courage comes from speaking our mind without fear—unfiltered,
unrestrained, and unapologetically real."
On facing bullies in the film industry, John made his stance clear,
saying, "I haven't been bullied in my career, but if anyone tries now,
they're waking up a sleeping giant. I won’t stay quiet anymore—I'll come at

letting live, but I also want to speak the truth as it is. Being brave matters,
and I hope younger actors will follow suit.

When asked about his biggest industry mentors, John expressed, “Aditya
Chopra is both my best advisor and biggest critic in the film industry—he gives
unfiltered feedback, whether it's praise or tough criticism. Another person I
deeply respect is Karan Johar. Despite not working with him recently, he has

Speaking at CNBC-TV18's Future.Female.Forward Season 3, Sabyasachi
Mukherjee reflected on his brand’s 25-year journey, his vision for its future,
and why he chose legacy over ownership.
"Mr Mukherjee, you cannot die," he recalls words from a girl
he met at the New Delhi airport a few years ago. Taken aback, he asked why. Her
response? “You have so much idealism in your business. What will happen to us?”
It is this legacy that Sabyasachi hopes to take forward with the brand
that he established 25 years ago, something that nudged him to sell 51% of the
company's stake to the Aditya Birla Group in 2021. For him, this was never about
relinquishing control. It was about securing the legacy of a brand he had
nurtured from a small Kolkata boutique into one of India’s most influential
fashion houses.
"Often, personal hubris makes entrepreneurs hold on too
long," he reflects. "Then they grow old, and the brand dies with
them. I was very clear—Sabya has to live on."
“I told Mr Birla, this company does not belong to me, it does not
belong to you. It belongs to the country at large, and we have to do it right,”
he tells CNBC-TV18, realising that his brand represents more than just
fashion—it symbolises possibility.
Unlike many entrepreneurs who hold onto their creations until they
fade, Sabyasachi believes in transition. “When personal hubris takes over, you
keep the baby just for yourself, you grow old, and the brand dies with you.
That was never an option for me,” he says.
Sabyasachi is pragmatic about his role in the brand’s future. He has no
biological children, but even if he did, he insists, “I would not give it to
them if they were not qualified.” Instead, his mission now is to spend the next
20 years transitioning Sabyasachi into a “corporate Sabya” that will thrive
long after he is gone.
At 51, Mukherjee is reflective yet forward-looking. "This brand
does not belong to me. It does not belong to Mr Birla. It belongs to the
country at large," he says. "If a middle-class boy from Kolkata could
break the glass ceiling, so can others."
As he charts the next 25 years, his focus remains the same: to elevate
Indian craftsmanship on a global stage. "It’s time we take back what was
always ours," he says. "India is going to the top—it’s just a matter
of time."
He mentioned why Deepika was his only Bollywood muse for this milestone
show. “I have never really used Bollywood on my runway. Deepika was the only
exception,” he admitted, adding that this would likely be the first and last
time he made such an exception.
Actress Deepika Padukone expressed her love and admiration for
Sabyasachi by reposting his story on Instagram and thanking him for his kind
words and generosity.
The gripping conversation had the audience spellbound as it delved into
the intersection of feminism, creativity, and identity where Sabyasachi said,
“Gender inequality begins with perception. If we raise boys to see women as
equals rather than competitors, true gender parity will follow. I grew up
surrounded by strong women, and for me, equality was never in question—it was
simply the way things were meant to be.”
Under the theme #PathToPeak, the third edition of Future.Female.Forward
takes a decisive step in the journey toward greater representation, leadership,
and opportunities for women in the workplace. More than just conversations,
this year’s summit brings together influential voices and industry leaders to
champion real progress and collective action.

powerful. He asserts dominance not just through his actions but through his

a complete departure from anything I’ve done in the past. Physically preparing
for the role was intense, demanding rigorous training and discipline.”

of history, culture, and contemporary relevance, seamlessly weaving narratives
which resonate across time. Through this visually stunning and
thought-provoking production, Dr. Mansingh highlights pressing societal issues such
as social equality and women empowerment —a theme deeply intertwined with the timeless
essence of Maa Ganga.

mythology, history, and social consciousness, drawing inspiration from the
eternal journey of Maa Ganga, Bhava-Ganga is conceptualised and choreographed
by Dr. Sonal Mansingh. This production delves into the river’s divine origins,

essence of India. The production urges audiences to reflect on their duty to
preserve and respect nature, drawing timeless lessons from the sacred river.

not just a river; she is the lifeline of our civilisation, witness to the rise
and fall of empires, and symbol of purity and strength.”
Dr. Mansingh has consistently used her choreographies as a powerful
medium to reflect on social realities. Her past productions have explored
themes on women’s rights, environmental sustainability, and cultural heritage,

movements, Bhava-Ganga takes the audience on a journey across time—from the
legend of Bhagirath’s penance to bring Ganga on Mother Earth, Prabhu Shri Ram’s
encounter with the Kevat (boatman), and the divine presence of Ganga in Kashi
as witness to Mahadev begging for alms from Devi Annapurna. These narratives
serve as allegories, drawing powerful parallels with contemporary discourse on
justice, equality, and environmental consciousness.
The production features Repertory Group of Centre for Indian Classical
Danes (CICD), a dynamic ensemble of artists trained under Dr. Mansingh’s expert
guidance, bringing her visionary choreography to life with their enthralling

in the future, for now hit play, close your eyes, and let this track wrap
around you like a comforting embrace.
